Moments with Him

I’ve been zeroing in on the concept for my next CD project. I stated in an earlier post that my plan was to take a series of Hymns and arrange each one with some sort of a “modern” concept. My idea has evolved a bit and become more of a “Mannheim Steamroller goes to church” sort of thing. I’ve always been a big fan of Mannheim Steamroller’s music, long before they became quite popular with their Christmas albums, although the Christmas albums are the direction I’m looking at.

Right now I’ve got concepts for six hymns in various settings – one is completed (the aformentioned Praise to the Lord the Almighty); two are started, and three more are just concepts. I’ve also conceived of four or five “interludes” which will be piano pieces with various accompaniments and natural settings.

The other hymn concepts I’m excited about. The two that are started are My Jesus I Love Thee done in the style of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. It is completely written, and the piano part is recorded. I’m still tweaking a bit, and plan to add an ethereal pad, and maybe a solo instrument of some sort.

The second is the hymn Be Thou My Vision done with a Renaissance ensemble – harpsichord, double reeds, strings. It will have a more modern bridge with piano. I’ve got the form laid out and written the first two verses.

The concepts include Great Is Thy Faithfulness, done on solo, fingerstyle guitar (should be interesting programming since I don’t play guitar), a pipe organ Fugue based on Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above, and the finale which will revisit Praise to the Lord the Almighty, and include Christ the Lord Is Ris’n Today and maybe a few others, done in an “unexpected” context.

I’ll be posting tracks as they are completed over on my Soundclick.com page, and will link to them from here. My Jesus I Love Thee will be then next one done, unless I’m struck by inescapable inspiration.
